I absolutely dislike SOME of the new authors in ao3 atm. “I didn’t tag cause it might spoil.” Like pls.. this isn’t your average social media platform. I also saw some1 say like “I reposted my piece cus it didn’t get a lot of attention”. Like omg[cry]. No hate to the authors who are new and TAKE NOTE of the critiques they are given, just those who don’t.

My fav is when dead dove: do not eat fics specify the state of the dove. Like "the dove is alive, but it sure as hell ain't doing well" and stuff like that.

If you're ever debating between adding a tag or not, you can always think "If I were searching for *a very specific tag*, would I want to read this story based on that tag alone?" So, say you have a story that centers around one specific relationship like Harry/Hermione and in one paragraph they mention another relationship like Ron/Draco, should you tag that? I'd take a moment to think "If I were searching specifically for Ron/Draco fics to read, would I want to read this fic right now?" If the answer is no or probably not, then maybe it's better to not tag it. Tag what's essential to the story, and tag any topics that can be easily triggering, to help people keep away from topics they don't want to deal with.

What if you are working on a multi-chapter fic and you have something planned for a later chapter that has not happened yet? Would you tag it anyway or wait until you release that chapter?

If you’re struggling to tag your work, I’d recommend scrolling works of the same fandom and age rating and looking for tags that could also apply to yours.

I wish there was a limit on how many Fandom tags you can put because I adore my fellow authors but when I'm trying to find a crossover fic and there's several MASSIVE walls of fandom tags for one-shot collection fics, it gets annoying, especially when you have a series option

I update my tags as I write so if suddenly a new trigger comes in I put it in the tags and let readers know to keep an eye out for updated tags just in case something comes up they don't like.
