@wheretofindme: 3 magical winter destinations in Japan (and everything you need to know) #EGAmbassador From snow-covered onsen towns to wild monkeys bathing in hot springs and cedar forests that feel straight out of a fairytale, these three places are what made me book a winter trip to Japan. While the snow makes these locations particularly magical, each of these destinations are just as beautiful in other seasons too. I’ve linked the best hotels near each place in my @expedia travel shop in both Yamagata and Nagano. 🔗 in bio! ⛄️ Some more things to know about each location: ✨ Ginzan Onsen (Yamagata)
About 3.5 hours from Tokyo by shinkansen + local train/bus. Most ryokans are fully booked up to a year in advance for the winter period so if you can’t stay in the village, the easiest way to visit is by day trip, which lets you see the town without staying overnight. 🐒 Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park (Nagano) Around 1.5 hours from Tokyo by Shinkansen to Nagano, then a 45 minutes bus + 40 minutes forest walk. The trail is well-maintained & gently sloped but in winter it does get icy so proper shoes for snow/hiking are essential! 🌲 Togakushi Shrine (Nagano)
Also 1.5 hours from Tokyo to Nagano, then about 1 hour by bus - which I recommend booking at least a day in advance, as seats often sell out. Located at the foot of Mount Togakushi, there are five shrines that make up the Togakushi Shrine. Please note that the Upper Shrine (Okusha) is typically closed from early January to late March/ early April due to safety during heavy snow, but the lower shrines and forest walk are still open during this period and absolutely worth visiting. #japantravel #japantiktok #creatorsearchinsights #japantravelguide
