@brynn_ann: Sourdough Experiment: 1,000-Year-Old Starter vs. 1-Year-Old Starter The results are in! Both loaves were made with: • the same recipe • the same flour • the same process • the same bake time So… what did I learn? While I don’t believe this starter is actually 1,000 years old (there’s no way to verify that), there is scientific evidence that historic starters can survive and be passed down over generations. I’ll break that down in another video. With that being said, some companies market “historical” or “ancient” starters to make them sound more appealing or special. At the end of the day, great sourdough comes down to starter strength, not the age on the label. #sourdough #sourdoughstarter #sourdoughbaking #sourdoughbread #sourdoughtok
Very cool comparison! I bought a "San Francisco" starter awhile ago that was supposed to be 100+ years old. It was also very mild on flavor. The starter I made 4 months ago is more tangy.

Does the starter not just eventually kill off the older parts of the starter if that makes sense 😭

I'm making a 2nd starter this one I'm doing from scratch and following your recipe. I'm just wondering when it will be safe to save the discard.

Almost like a starter convention needs to be done. Everyone bakes and samples different loaves.

How does one get the crust so “soft” I baked the other day and left the lid on a little longer thinking that would solve the problem but not much of a difference. Thank you 😊

Actually even if you use just normal yeast but treated it and fermented it the same it will have the same texture, the only difference is the taste

They both look great, does the 1,000yr old starter still smells like banana 🍌? Does that give it the sweeter flavor?
