@englishteachersandoval: How well do you really understand what you read? 🧐 This series of readings is designed to help you gauge your English comprehension. these readings are ranging from A1 (Beginner) all the way to C2 (Proficient). While these paragraphs are a fantastic tool to measure your reading and comprehension, it’s important to remember that language skills aren't always symmetrical. Being able to understand a C1 text shows great progress, but it does not determine your speaking or writing level. You might be a "Passive Master" (great at listening/reading) while still working on becoming an "Active Pro" (fluent in speaking/writing). Put Your Skills to the Test Don't just read, interact! Here is how you can use this post to level up your active skills: * Practice Your Writing: Choose a text that challenges you and answer the questions at the end in the comments. * Practice Your Speaking: Record a video or voice note of yourself answering the questions or summarizing the text. Which level feels like home for you? Read through the pictures and let me know your results in the comments. #englishchallenge #englishreading #englishpractice #englishlevel #a1
In my view, the line between personal freedom and social responsibility is not a static border, but rather a dynamic negotiation based on two main factors:
1. The "Harm Principle"
A classic place to start is John Stuart Mill’s idea: your freedom to swing your fist ends where my nose begins. Personal freedom should be near-absolute until it causes demonstrable harm to others. For example:
Freedom: Choosing what to eat or wear (low impact on others).
Responsibility: Following traffic laws or public health protocols (high impact on collective safety).
2. The "Invisible Benefits" of the Social Contract
We often view social responsibility as a "cost" to our freedom, but it’s actually the foundation that makes freedom possible. You aren't truly "free" if you have to spend 100% of your time defending your own property or finding clean water. By "trading" a bit of autonomy—like paying taxes or following communal rules—we gain the security and infrastructure that actually allow us the leisure time to pursue personal interests.
