I’ve caught myself so many times questioning my thoughts and diving into why. I thought this was a normal thing to do.

I do this, but it’s like it hits me delayed sometimes. Like I’ll be in an emotion for a good sec before I’m like…hold on this isn’t me.

I was taught, therapeutically, to sit quietly and let my thoughts arise like bubbles and to simply observe them. They exist, but they are floating around at a safe distance that I can look at them and choose whether to engage with them, how, etc. I've been practicing the same with emotions.

a 1000%!! My college mentor told me that metacognition and cognitive empathy are the most important skills in learning (being aware of your train of thought & being able to put yourself in another’s shoes)

My mental tip as an adhd person is when I am bored or impatient I read a book. It keeps me calm and helps me become more patient

the numbing + social media distractions has been difficult. perhaps going on my daily walks without listening to music or audio book will be a good exercise. for body + mind.

As a former educator, we called this thinking about your thinking. A strategy we used to help students develop this skill is called “think alouds”. Basically, model how “good” learned think. An example would be thinking aloud how you solve a math problem, literally all your thoughts to connect what you know, questions you ask yourself, and encourage yourself to persevere
