Evan doesn't love her more than Wriggley does. Evan loves Bree more than she loves him - following Mariannes advice to marry someone who loves you more than you love them. Also I think Marianne is both a victim and villain. No trauma does not excuse your actions, but it will inform and shape them. It's not your fault for being harmed, but what you do with that is your responsibility.

She can be both. Victims aren’t always sympathetic and are perfect capable of doing villainous things. That’s also just people. People generally aren’t all good or bad. It’s exceptional when people are truly just villains. I think Stephen is the only one on the show who fits that description.

i think she’s supposed to parallel lucy actually - if she stayed with stephen that would be her life too. they start as victims but at a certain point it becomes a choice to stay when you’re old enough to know better and can see the harm they’re causing not only to yourself but others.

When you love someone MORE than yourself, you are a victim of their manipulation. That's what she was trying to say. She has been in a relationship where she, a strong independent person, has been broken down to something less than he is all because she loved him more and he manipulated her love for him. We see this EVERYDAY in DV relationships.

its a tough call because they way she explained it in episode 6 sounds like shes so in love with oliver that she's been allowing him to be a predator so that she doesnt rock the boat and lose him. she might be a victim of his manipulation, he's clearly very good at it.
