I hear what you’re saying but I’m also seeing entry level job postings that require a bachelor degree. There is a disconnect somewhere.

Saying college students have no skills and that college isn't real work is totally unfair

High school indoctrination made you think you will be poor unless you go to college. Now they’re out of college and buried in a lifetime of debt. Thank your local high school.

Kids these days don’t want the entry level jobs and work their way up like the rest of us did. It sucks and it’s not fun but it’s the fundamentals. And bc they move jobs so frequently, the are a risk

I think $45k was fine in 2012 (what I made TJ ) but 12-14 years later that’s just not going to cut it, college degree or not.

The biggest problem here is the wages you’re saying are unrealistic for a college grad are the exact same wages we’ve been asking for 20 YEARS AGO as a college grad. It is time to admit, we are indentured servants whether you want to call it that or not.

Yeah, I found college to be more beneficial later in life when I was already in the job market long enough to understand what opportunities to take advantage of and what was useless to me.

We regularly hire entry level software engineers. We will hire people with no degree if they have experience, but we hire new grads. We certainly don’t hold it against them.

my 15y doesn't want to go to college cuz he doesn't want to be in debt, he sees the trades as a better option and he's smart enough and might possibly pull off getting a full ride but for now college isn't his plan but stays academically driven yes

Ok… but are those jobs hiring people without degrees? It’s not as if there’s a ton of people out there with or without degrees that are looking for professional jobs under $65k

hence alot of corporate jobs are offshoring those jobs to India. can we talk about that? Its not that thry dont want to hire college grads its that they want to pay literally below minimum wage for college grad in another country. this has happened to so many people being laid off. not just Gen . All departments. forget long term employees who have been there for 10 plus years.

I just went a job fair and was shocked at how many companies said they would hire even if you don't have a degree. They told me they do that because they would rather teach someone exactly what they need to know to do the job. These were all from manufacturing and engineering companies BTW

We have to dismantle the whole system. If the market won't pay a living wage for anyone the market isn't working for anyone except the people at the very top. The conditions you are describing might be true, I don't know. BUT IT IS AI, because AI is what these billionaires want to power the world. And they want the rest of us as uneducated as possible, fighting over scraps. It is not college. It's billionaires. It's politicians. It's AI. It's sure as hell not college keeping us in the dirt. Give me a break.

Somewhere along the line people were fed the misconception that a bachelor’s degree absolves you from entry level. You have the knowledge. You don’t yet have the experience. Employers aren’t taking a risk on someone yet who hasn’t proven their ability to apply that knowledge in real-world circumstances. It takes a little time. I’ve worked in higher ed for 20 years, and one of the biggest soap boxes I stand on is be realistic with what the degree can and can’t do for you, so you know how best to apply your energy after graduating. Get used to the concept that instant gratification doesn’t exist and that the hard work actually starts AFTER you get the degree. You don’t just magically get handed the life you want without the hustle.

The country needs to make college affordable and work with businesses to provide co-operative jobs. I went to the University of Cincinnati and I worked in my field the last two years of school and was hired on upon graduation. Its tough, I agree. I graduated with 40,000 in debt and paid 175 dollars a month for 25 years to pay off my student loans.
