I'm not sure about this case, but most waterways around me in California are full of non-native, invasive aquatic plants that choke out the native aquatic plants. This seems like a good way to remove lots of biomass from a pond that has accumulated too much due to lack of herbivory, either because native herbivores are missing or they cannot eat the non-natives. It isn't a permanent solution but could be a management tool to help natives get established. What's the thing in the front do?
