@bristexastails: Millie update 🤍 Millie has been taking a lot longer than I expected, which is making me feel like she may have not just been abused but may have had very little socialization in her life. At first the leash was completely foreign to her, with a lot of thrashing and even trying to chew through it to get free. Every day we’ve been working on short walks to help her get more comfortable, because for Millie to be adoptable she needs to feel okay with basic, everyday things most dogs experience. Up until today I hadn’t bathed her, but as I’ve learned more about Millie’s behavior and built more trust with her, I felt she was ready. She’s smelled pretty bad since I brought her home and with her spay surgery scheduled for Thursday, now was the right time since she won’t be able to be bathed for a while afterward due to her stitches. I’m really hoping to have Millie more socialized and prepared for new experiences within the upcoming weeks because within the next two months I’ll be heading to the hospital to deliver a baby and Millie will need to transition into another foster home during that time. My goal is to set her up for success and so far I can confidently say we are heading in the right direction! #fosteringsaveslives #millie #rescuedog #shelterdog
