@nudibranch_nerd: I know they look so helpless! But here is why it is probably better to leave sea stars where you find them 🤓 #starfish #conservation #ocean #LearnOnTikTok #TikTokLearningCampaign
I didn't know this. thanks for educating us on seastars

it depends on the type of sea star. this is specifically true for sea stars on the pacific coast. it doesn’t apply to sea stars here in florida though, for example. it is still always best practice to not touch any wildlife ever regardless of where. thank you for the info!

People do this because “The Tale of the Starfish” which is a sweet story about making a difference to one sea star at a time. Instead of understanding the parable and helping one person at a time, they take it literally and do the sea star thing instead. 🥲

Thanks for the education! I was one of the people who thought I was helping them..…I thought they would dry out & die.

I live at a flat sandy beach on the other side of a channel. starfish seem to get pulled from that channel to the sandy beach by currents sometimes so it's weird I knew this intuitively to just help them stay wet O:

what if its almost dried out? I usually just find seaweed to cover them but a couple ive found were so dry they were almost hard.
