@footballstation2: The Chelsea–Øvrebø incident refers to the 2009 UEFA Champions League semi-final second leg between Chelsea and Barcelona at Stamford Bridge, one of the most controversial matches in football history. After a 0–0 draw in the first leg, Chelsea took the lead early through a stunning Michael Essien volley and were on course for the final. Throughout the match, Chelsea were denied several strong penalty appeals, including fouls on Florent Malouda, Didier Drogba, and Nicolas Anelka. The most infamous moment came when Gerard Piqué handled the ball inside the penalty area with his arm clearly outstretched, yet no penalty was given. These repeated decisions caused growing frustration among Chelsea players and fans. In stoppage time, Andrés Iniesta scored a dramatic long-range goal to make it 1–1 on aggregate, sending Barcelona through on away goals. After the final whistle, Chelsea players angrily confronted the referee, with Drogba famously calling the performance “a disgrace.” The match later became a symbol of refereeing controversy and played a major role in shaping debates that eventually led to the introduction of VAR. #øvrebø#fyp#chelsea#barcelona#championsleague
