Both are remarkable works, yet Jane Eyre is the novel one must read when seeking a love that is human, imperfect, and achingly real, shadowed by sadness, but honest in its depth. Wuthering Heights, in my own experience, was compelling and darkly beautiful, yet it never quite delivered the bittersweet tenderness of romance it seems to promise. When set beside Pride and Prejudice, that luminous emblem of classic love, Jane Eyre stands apart: it does not simply tell a love story, it makes you feel understood. It reaches inward, tracing emotions quietly and intimately, as if the pages themselves were listening. Yeah i just love Jane Eyre hahaha

I always thought Wuthering Heights is about obsession rather than love or romance, it also got a lot of unpleasant characters. Jane Eyre has characters who learn, grow and change even if they are flawed. Both interesting and influential but I just prefer reading Jane Eyre.

I definitely prefer Wuthering Heights - exactly because Jane Eyre “stays within bounds”, it’s pragmatic… meanwhile my girl Emily Brontë imagined a story I’d have never imagined on my own!

wuthering heights is my favourite because I read it very young and it blew my mind. but Jane Eyre or Shirley are very good as well. Brontë sisters wrote masterpieces.

Jane Eyre, no hesitation. I was on the edge of my seat for the whole 185k words 😅 she made morally grey characters still loveable and yes deeply human. I understand Heathcliff and Catherine are not supposed to be likeable and it’s visceral but I ended despising everyone too much 😬

I read both of them at high school and always prefer Wuthering Heights. There is something so surreal and haunting about it, like a fever dream you can’t wipe out of your mind.

Finally my favourite comparison. For me Jane Eyre is by far superior in merit and suspense, I don't get how Wuthering Heights is more preferred. Jane Eyre revolves around a plethora of themes , dilemmas and philosophical questionings about human nature, envy, appearance vs character, right vs wrong , religion, priorities, self discovery etc. The descriptions are mesmerising, the dialogues philosophical, the plot deeper. Not to say that Wuthering Heights isn't great, but it feels more one dimensional to me. Just my opinion as an English BA.
