I just visited Indonesia and had similar experience with Grab. There’s even an option for a full day driver which came in handy on our last day since we had an overnight flight. I get why the drivers are willing to do long waits and all, I think the competition is super steep and each ride actually pays reasonably well. Landing in Lombok, I was super overwhelmed by a horde of taxi drivers trying to get us to ride with them. 😅
