I've been no contact with my dad for three years and low contact with my mom for a year. The grief comes in waves. I recognize the peace I've been able to experience but the loss of family (even toxic ones) is so isolating. I hope everyone going through this too is getting into safer spots

So well said! Going on 9 years no contact. It takes therapy and help the longer this goes on. I know they will die without me ever seeing or speaking to them again.

But I am in that area around steps 8 and 9 at the ripe age of 36. It took until I was 25 to move out. It took until 32 to afford therapy. And it took until now to finally take these last steps. It is so hard. And especially for those with medical conditions, disabilities, etc. because being dependent on parents or employers for health insurance.

This summary feels quite accurate. I did this later in life but I have been through most of these steps. At my current stage, one has moved on to the next stage of life, and the other has full blown dementia.

Do u think going no contact is always necessary? I think I’ve just accepted my parents (now only my dad) my mom passed. That they just can’t and won’t be there for me on certain ways. But they still can be in some ways. And I’ve also finally set boundaries with my dad
