I'll chime in from the patient side. I hate insurance companies for their practices, but insurance has made mental healthcare much more accessible for me. I would not be able to pay therapists the compensation they deserve without it. Insurance needs to stop with the clawbacks

Out of network invoices with proper DX and Coding etc get paid routinely without cumbersome back checking so there has to be a bigger systemic problem of gatekeeping mental health resources at a reasonable cost. Not everyone can afford to pay private pay rates.

Have you ever worked for a corporation? Just curious. I see your point and it would be nice to work for yourself and be your own boss.

I’m curious how this nightmare with insurance companies is different for psychiatrists than other specialties

I used to charge per 30 min slots. Some patients needed 30 mins, some needed 90. Patients felt they had more control. Since not everyone needs an hour, every time. 💯

I noticed my insurance will reject claims my specialists make because they took too long to bill them (they waited over 6 months). I always keep the notice that my insurance sends me saying I'm not responsible for the bill, that they are rejecting it because my specialist took too long to request payment. I always appeal their decision though. 🤔

I saw someone post on the therapists subreddit that they had around $700k clawed back by insurance. People need to stop expecting providers to be the only ones responsible for increasing accessibility. Insurance companies need to be held accountable.

I'd be thrilled to pay out of pocket but providers WON'T accept us a patients because we have insurance that they don't accept.

If no one took insurance, healthcare would be cheaper. Insurance is a scam, it scams everyone- doctors as well as patients.
