@fightthenewdrug: GirlsDoP*rn is one of the largest s*x trafficking cases that has ever been prosecuted. And in this week's Consider Before Consuming episode, we have the privilege of hearing directly from a GDP trafficking survivor, now an advocate against trafficking and exploitation. In this episode, Mariah shares her story—from how she was trafficked to the harsh realities of living with nonconsensual imagery online, the fight for justice in the courts, and how she now offers hope and healing to other survivors like herself. Through connection, witness, and advocacy, she came to recognize and share the strength, intelligence, and resilience it takes not only to survive exploitation but to keep living a full life afterward. If you're wondering why victims don't "just leave," how s*x trafficking actually occurs in cases like GirlsDoP*rn, or why some survivors seem to comply or return, Mariah’s story offers a clearer picture. Feel the same when when my boss asks me to do overtime, come in on my day off, or train the new hire...I feel trapped, cant escape and I feel lied to. They said to just help finish some work, stayed there 4 extra hours. But hey, least we both got paid right!

Could you have left? That’s the only question. There are women who are actually sex trafficked. They cannot leave. That is the difference. You may have been scammed, swindled, taken advantage of, all horrible things. But sex trafficking is another level.

That is the weakest form of sex trafficking and could delude people’s understanding of the term

It’s confusing at what point a person involved should be considered responsible for continuing in a direction like this. What ever that end thing is, you made multiple choices along the way looking for money, potential fame, or just the attention. In a situation where you are not kidnapped, forced, or drugged how is it anyone’s fault but your own. Should they be doing what ever it is they are, absolutely not but you got something out of it and continued to go. It’s just hard to feel sorry for some people in the end. They made a choice to take part in something they later regretted, understandable but it was a choice put in front of them that they took. I don’t know this ladies story and I am not judging her personally it just seems to be a common claim when people look back and regret some things they took part in. I don’t consider those who choose to participate in porn as bad people in anyway. You live your life and if that’s the path you choose, in my opinion as long as you are ok with it there’s nothing wrong with it. Just know the potential risks.

That’s straight stolen valor to the highest degree. Trafficking eliminates your free will out of the equation all together and you’re certainly not getting paid for your work. At some point you need to take accountability.

This takes time and energy away from actual sex trafficking. Is this right? No not at all. But definitely not trafficking.
