I think what's awesome about them is that we never really forgot about them. Like, sure we got better stuff now, but did we stop planting them? Did we stop making them? Did we abandon them? Honestly, wouldn't be a bad idea to return to them. No lead, no microplastics.

The long skinny one is a Sicilian variety called a cucuzza. They can get up to 5 feet long, but if you harvest them at like 3-4 feet before they get a tough skin they’re really good in soup. Source: my dad grows them

It’s odd to me that bottle gourds would go out of use. I’m sure growing these takes lots of time and effort, but surely not as much as all the fuel for the intensely hot ovens needed for pottery??
