I never learned that trick in school. I used the substitution method instead. y = 9-x .

But 2x+3y is not. = 22
It is equal 8+15 =23 something went wrong in the equation

Why didn’t my middle school maths teacher use the elementary method in teaching us linear equations?

X+Y = 9
5+4= 9
2x+3Y=22
2(5) +3(4)= 22
10+12= 22

if we solve by substitution method, x+y=9 => x=y-9
2x+3y=22
2(9-y)+3y=22
18-2y+3y=22 then y=4 & x=5

Dr. Mike Elendu :
The method you're using is very long. The use of the elimination method is shorter. Just multiply equation 1 by 2 and equation 2 by 1 to eliminate x. Then that gives: 2x+2y=18 and 2x+3y=22....

Mvaa Andrew :
x = 5, y = 4
From the first equation: x = 9 − y
Substituting into the second: 2(9 − y) + 3y = 22 → 18 + y = 22 → y = 4, then x = 5 ✓
As much as you may be right, don't complicate it please, just substiute:
x =9-y
2(9-y)+3y=22
18-2y+3y=22
y=22-18=4
×=9-4=5
now use your method in the same case to solve 1009x + 20006y =239091, Ridiculous...
