I was given the “cup test” at a panel interview. The executive I would’ve been reporting to had his laptop with him and worked on it the entire time. He completely ignored the room, and halfway through the interview I said “Well Steven, it appears that you have some pressing matters that need to be addressed. So, I’m going to excuse myself from this conversation.” The look on his team’s face when I said that to him was gold. I looked at all of them and said “Thank you for your time today. I can see myself out, and Steven, I’m sure you know what to do with this (pointing to the cup of water).” The rubber necking from his team almost sent me. 😂

I have horror stories. Here is just one of many. The CEO would send around a donation on his birthday for all employees to give him cash. He also sold a section of the business for £4million and thanked us all for our hard work and announced he's taking a big holiday and to keep it up so he can go on more holidays. You've never seen resignations happen so fast.

I hate corporate! And the corporate speak…like politicians. All words but never say anything! And the phrases like “What does that look like” “ let’s unpack that” “Feedback” ugh 😤

One off our young Engineers, was brought along to a high level meeting with a very big multinational client. During the meeting was getting bored, started fidgeting & “luckily” found he had a banana in his pocket.🤣 Without hesitation (or thinking), he peels & proceeds to eat it. Needless to say, everyone stops talking & looks at him. Without a qualm he looks around the table, & asks “anyone like a piece?!” That was back in the 1990’s , still talked about to this day (the Engineer in question, was “gifted” now a bigwig, with a large German company)🤣🤣🤣

The gaslight tests are next level. Was once accused of something in an initial interview, asked them to verify it and then they couldn’t. Figured out later it was a test to see how attendees respond in sensitive situations.
