engineers design the bolt like that so if the nut does back off it doesn't cause a wreck while operating the vehicle

Would you be shocked to hear that they did not only assemble the car around that bolt. But they built the whole factory around it. The bolt arrives before the excavators break the ground.

And the service manual literally says to cut the head off and install the new one the other direction 💀

I would 100% argue that sagging the battery takes the same amount of time as cutting the bolt and finding a new one.

Bolt modification, lower lateral and compliance links, plus alignment, pays like 7+ hours, boy do I miss working for Tesla

Most aftermarket control arms for these model S/X come with new bolts so u can just cut the old ones instead of dropping battery

As a Tesla mechanic I can say that this was how they came from the factory, when we replace the links we have to cut the bolt and install them the opposite way

Yea I ran into this, marked the position, cut the bolt and flipped my marks onto the new bolt, while it was hard, totally doable for a diy person

It’s a safety thing, if the nut was to somehow come loose the bolt can’t fall out
