Look, there’s no curse or anything of the sort involved, and nobody has died. I’ve heard people say this poem is about a boy who killed his parents—all that nonsense—but the reality is different. A Japanese man named Saijo Yaso wrote it in 1919 after returning to Japan from France; it deals with the horror and misery of World War I and a boy named Tomino who endures great hardship during the conflict. Besides, Yaso lived until 1970; if the poem were actually cursed, he would have been the first to die. These rumors only started in the early 2000s, when an author claimed in a book that the poem was cursed and would kill anyone who read it. I’ve actually read it in English, and Japanese (well, the Hepburn romanization), and nothing happened to me.
