most SSDs you buy these days will take years to discharge to the point of potential data loss. that being said, the rule of thumb is SSD for quick and short term backup, HDD for long term.

I haven’t plugged mine for 4 years after watching this i ran and plugged in just to find out that all my files were 100% safe nothing missing 7,428 files intact

I learned this the hard way a couple of months ago. I finally decided to transfer and back up pictures from an early-2010s SSD, and all the data was gone.

HDD Best for Archival. Even without power for a long time it's fine.

HDDs are better for cold storage than SSDs. use solid for daily, mechanical for backups
