If god set up a system for eternal torment / punishment, then God is evil. No one could ever argue eternal torment is “just” because no finite crime deserves eternal torment. I think it’s moral to have people just die. No problem.

As a catholic i believe what the church teaches but i have to admit that I struggle to believe in an eternal suffering.

I don’t understand how theologically someone (or their soul) can exist eternally (whether in punishment or not) without being connected to God. How can you be in fully separated from God and continue to exist? Would love to get your thoughts

I could be wrong here but I don’t think it matters too much what the punishment is. We know it’s separation from God so arguing specifics achieves what exactly? Plenty of other issues to worry about that WILL affect our salvation

I feel a lot of us in this "debate" tend to commit the same sin as Adam: We take God's role as judge to decide what is good and what is evil; what is just and what is injust. We claim to know what a just God would/should do. In this case, I believe that we should trust that the Lord IS just, and to not allow these debates to divide us. If Eternal conscious torment is correct, God decided it was just. If annihilationism is correct, God decided it was just. If universalism is correct, God decided it was just. I feel as though there is more that could be said on this matter, but I'll end it with this: God calls us to love one another, but he also tells us to correct one another. Though ultimately he tells us to love HIM and to trust HIM. We don't know everything, that's part of not being God, and part of being a Christian is accepting our own ignorance yet still striving to learn and to know God. We are children in front of the Lord, clueless and fumbling, so we should run to him as our father and allow him to soothe our worries.

Purgatory is kinda what you explain with conditional punishment only difference is that it’s less of a punishment and more of a conditional healing

maybe a silly question due to my lack of understanding, but weren't the rich man and Lazarus in Sheol or Hades, Lazarus being on Abraham's side the rich man, not. so this is pre-judgement and a different torment than what the rich man would get once judged and sentenced to hell? I dont believe in conditional immortality & but just trying to understand how thats the best argument against it.

Sure some Hell is temporary, like the DMV is literally hell, but after two or three days they let you out and you have new license plates.

Wherever you end up, and whatever the condition of that space is, it is correct, it is just, and it does not diminish the quality of God’s love.

Very fair assessment, well done video. I think it's very sincere to look at it and say "hey it looks moreso this way, but I can see why some people think this and be here's why they do"

There is a problem with annihilation. The spirit of the human is his and if you are saying that he will eliminate his spirit he would have to go against himself by annihilating his own spirit not the Holy Spirit but the spirit he gives man. Unless you can make an argument that God would annihilate his own spirit.

Great video. Your content is never accusatory. You present data and reason to your position using the data. I personally hold to conditional immortality, but like you said this isn’t something that is super clear.
