Snow, cold that’s sticking around for a week, and another cold snap coming again this weekend. Over a decade, we’ve used a wood-burning stove to keep our shed house warm. Here are a few things we’ve learned: • Dry heat matters. Wood stoves don’t add moisture, which helps prevent mold in small spaces. • Airflow is everything. Good cross-ventilation keeps heat moving instead of trapping damp air. • Size your stove to your space. Bigger isn’t better in a shed. • Burn seasoned wood only. Wet wood smokes, creosotes your chimney, and barely heats. • Insulate smart. Seal drafts before adding more stuff. • Always have a backup. Extra firewood inside, kindling ready, tools within reach.
