I don’t see how this is ok? Consent isn’t always about age, it’s about freedom. When one person has power over another’s grades, recommendations, academic standing, or future opportunities, a student can never be fully free to say no. How is administration not clear on that? 😵💫

I think at mine its ok for them to do it with a student that doesnt have classes or a major in your department, although this info comes from a professor saying "good, youre not in my department, otherwise we couldn't hookup" to me 💀

it's a cultural stuff. In some countries if you are an adult, you are fully treated as such even if you're a student. And if two adults want to date, there isn't any rule that Can forbid it in many places.

Such a red flag. The imbalance of power is what makes it morally and ethically bad. Not the age. Because if a student say no the fear is the professor would fail them so is it coerced consent?

Canadian but this is definitely true, I know of multiple profs that have done this and some ended up marrying their student (it’s worked out so far but still very weird)

Usually the policy is a professor can’t date a student in their class, but yes, they are allowed to date students at the university.

I knew a girl in undergrad that was dating a professor at our school. While he was never her professor and in a completely different department, they met bc he was HER IDENTICAL TWIN'S PROFESSOR--
