Obviously, evidently, apparently, seemingly. All four of these adverbs have similar meanings because of the words they come from (obvious, evident, and apparent), but they don’t exactly mean the same thing, and we use them in different situations. I explain their meanings and how we typically use them in today’s video, and I hope you find it interesting or helpful! 😄 Take note of the following four adverbs that I explain in this video: 🔸obviously = used when something is very easy to see or understand and when we have no doubt and are 100% sure that something’s true: If you’re a new teacher and your students like you, you’re obviously doing something right. 🔸evidently = used when we have seen physical evidence that something is true, but we’re still not 100% sure it’s true: I was going to invite you to the party, but evidently, you have plenty of friends already. 🔸apparently = used when we’ve heard or read something, but we don’t know if it’s 100% true, so this adverb expresses a lot more doubt than “evidently” and “obviously”: Apparently, Timothée Chalamet was filming a documentary at a park close to my apartment earlier on today. 🔸seemingly = used to say how something seems or looks on the outside, though it could be very different in reality; often used before adjectives, but can also be used before verbs as well: He made a seemingly minor mistake that ended up costing the company thousands.
