It’s bc they genuinely are surprised bc they are emotionally unavailable and don’t view their parenting style as neglect …9/10 they feel like housing you and feeding you was enough and makes them great parents.. they’re not thinking about how you experienced them as parents ..so yes they actually are surprised

My mom told me one time that the reason why she treats my younger sister so much better than me is because she “doesn’t want to lose her” like she lost me. I mean, sure, not beating her until she bleeds and emotionally manipulating her will do wonders for your relationship I guess.
