🔒 Understanding HTTPS and How It Works! 🔐 HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol) is a widely used protocol for communication between websites and browsers on the Internet. It forms the foundation of the World Wide Web, but it lacks essential security features like data privacy, integrity, and identification. To address these concerns, HTTPS comes into play. The "S" stands for "Secure," and it enhances the features of HTTP by adding a robust security layer using Transport Layer Security (TLS) for data encryption. Let's explore the steps involved in a typical HTTPS communication: 1️⃣ The client (web browser or mobile device) establishes an HTTPS connection with the server using "https://" instead of "http://". 2️⃣ A secure TCP connection is established between the client and the server. 3️⃣ The client and server perform a three-way handshake to exchange SSL information. If the SSL version is supported, the server sends an SSL certificate to the client. This certificate includes details like the public key, hostname, and expiry dates. 4️⃣ The client verifies if the certificate is trusted, not expired, and not revoked by a trusted Certificate Authority (CA). 5️⃣ After successful certificate validation, the client generates an encrypted session key using the server's public key. 6️⃣ The server decrypts the session key using its private key. 7️⃣ Now, both the client and server possess the same encrypted session key, enabling the establishment of a secure connection. #security #transport #privacy #data #internet #Tech #techtok #worldwideweb #communication #http #https
