The "Double Bubble" is the gold standard finding. It represents a dilated stomach and a dilated proximal duodenum. Because of the obstruction, amniotic fluid can't pass through, which often leads to Polyhydramnios (excessive amniotic fluid). The Registry Connection: If you see this on your boards, your mind should immediately jump to Trisomy 21. About 1/3 of fetuses with this obstruction are diagnosed with Down Syndrome. 🧬 Why it happens: It’s a developmental "glitch" where the duodenum fails to recanalize (open up) early in the first trimester.
