@allisonbrookeahr: 📍Djibouti 🇩🇯 Working camels are an essential part of life in the Afar desert region of Djibouti (and Ethiopia, but this was in Djibouti). There are no roads in the desert, and very heavy duty vehicles with 4 wheel drive are required to navigate the terrain. Plus the upkeep on these vehicles is quite extensive due to the wear and tear they endure. Therefore, most people don’t have vehicles because they cannot afford them. But they do have camels. The camels are adapted to the harsh conditions of life in the hottest region of the world. The locals use camels to transport goods across the desert in salt caravans. They also use the camels for transportation, meat, and milk. My guides gave this camel herder water and khat (leaves that are chewed to give a stimulant effect) to help him on his journey. #camel #desertlife #afartiktok #djiboutitiktok🇩🇯🇩🇯 #djibouti
