Mario Alberto Morales, was a contracted U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) transportation officer who was recently indicted by a Harris County grand jury in Houston, Texas. He is facing a felony charge of second-degree aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after an on-duty incident where he allegedly ran over a man with an unmarked SUV. Before launching his career with ICE, Mario Alberto Morales pursued a political path in his hometown region of South Texas. Under his campaign name, "Bam" Morales, he launched a brief bid for the Republican Party nomination for Texas' 34th Congressional District. During interviews and podcast appearances when he was running for political office, Mario Alberto Morales stated he was a pastor for Omega Fire Ministries in Brownsville, Texas, which is his hometown. Additionally, his defense attorney noted that he studied to become a police chaplain at the Universidad Cristiana Internacional El Shaddai in Dallas and has frequently engaged in faith-based missionary trips to other countries. On October 10, 2026, ICE agents were executing an operation in a northwest Harris County shopping center parking lot to arrest a specific target. During the pursuit, Morales steered his unmarked vehicle into 48-year-old Miguel Parra Hernandez, who was running away. Investigators revealed that Parra Hernandez was entirely the wrong person. ICE agents were reportedly searching for a different individual who had been dead for nine years. Parra Hernandez, a Mexican construction worker, has lived in the Houston area for over 30 years with no criminal record or prior deportation orders. Parra Hernandez suffered multiple severe leg fractures and nerve damage, requiring major surgery. He remains hospitalized at a rehabilitation facility. Following the incident, Morales called 911 and claimed that the victim had jumped out and hit his vehicle. However, local prosecutors and the Harris County Sheriff stated that surveillance and body camera footage directly contradicted this, showing Morales intentionally veering the SUV into the fleeing man.
