@voice.of.asean: Southeast Asia’s reputation for warmth and hospitality shows clearly in the latest regional survey on positive emotions. The data reveals that Indonesia ranks first, with an impressive 90% of respondents saying they smiled or laughed frequently. Close behind is Cambodia at 89%, followed by Laos at 88%. These top three countries stand out for their consistently upbeat daily experiences, reflecting strong community ties, relaxed social cultures, and everyday friendliness. Just below the leaders, Vietnam (82%), the Philippines (81%), and Malaysia (81%) also post high scores, suggesting that positivity is widespread across the region rather than concentrated in a single country. Even nations further down the list — Myanmar (77%), Singapore (76%), and Thailand (72%) — still report solid majorities, reinforcing Southeast Asia’s image as one of the most cheerful corners of the world. Together, the results paint a picture of a region where smiles are part of daily life, from bustling city streets to rural towns. But it’s the top three — Indonesia, Cambodia, and Laos — that truly shine, leading the rankings and highlighting how culture, social connection, and outlook can shape happiness just as much as economics.
