they've done this with Starlight and Storm, the third book in a series (compass and blade, shadow and tide) where the sprayed edges looked to be making a wave. This new one shows NO special edition online at all and it releases at the end of the month 😬

I emailed them about these 2 books and starlight and storm, they replied saying it's down to the publishers, they haven't been informed by the publishers about doing the special editions.

Waterstones are a book shop, not a publishers. So while they’ll have really close working relationships with all the publishers, especially around exclusive editions it may not actually be their choice. If the sales haven’t been as expected it may not be financially worthwhile, or it could also be that it doesn’t fit into the publishers printing schedule? There could be many possible reasons why this specific special edition isn’t yet available or may not be available at all.

also this from Waterstones .... Hello! I haven't heard anything about a special edition I'm afraid. If one does become available it'll be listed separately so it's worth keeping an eye on our website just in case. Apologies that I couldn't be of more help - Amy

I'm waiting on a special edition of Earthbound. I have the first 2 in sprayed edges and have a standard edition on pre order. I'm just hoping that since it's not out till August it will come on soon but I really don't know.

I've noticed that some of the sequels I'm after aren't added till 2mths before publication yet some are a year. Makes no sense. But I also preorder the Wretched Divine straight away as well.

They’ve done this for The Prince Without Sorrow’s sequel too! I’d love a matching edge… but no. Nothing seems to be releasing and I thought this is a duology so it’s odd to have one special and one not

Sometimes I think it takes a while for special editions to get put up and sometimes they get put up quite quickly it might be you just have to wait and see 😁

The Thorn queen has a special edition from blackwells they are doing two HOWEVER none of them match the rose bargain and one is out of stock I’m so annoyed coz I do loved the rose bargain I can’t get my hand on the FL one cuz ppl are asking ridiculous prices 😊🌺

They also don't seem to be doing a special paperback edition of A Curse Carved in Bone by Danielle L. Jensen 😭 They've only done a special edition of the first book and I so dislike not having matching editions 😢

I hate it when you place a preorder but they then release a special edition later! Why don’t they just make the preorders a special edition and then if you want a regular version you can make that choice.
