The fact that Anthony didn’t even understand what they were asking of him, and that his mother had to explain it, shows that he was still a child, far too young and innocent to be burdened with such a decision. 💔

This scene really exposes that women were literally viewed as cattle in those days - the man who ‘owns’ her and her child gets to decide whose survival would benefit himself more. Whilst the woman who is actually the patient has no say over her own body or life. Sickening

Edmund would have chosen the same as Anthony did in the end, that they must do what Violet wishes. Edmund would have chosen to trust his wife knows best, especially after having had seven children. Anthony did what he believed his father would have, to listen to Violet.

And everyone goes on at Eloise for this and that but she has a genuine fear of hearing her mum give birth. She hides all her fear behind sarcasm cause no one listens. Women having no say ,throughout history, in their autonomy of their bodies in childbirth is terrifying.
