Plus you must look at the type of movie monsters ball was for Halle berry to win that award. it was a traumatic black movie that had Halle berry being a struggling single black mother who was a sexual prize for white men. Her sex scene was so realistic folks to this day believe she had to actually have sex on camera...I can understand Angela Bassett's words and frustration.

huh? she was really big and in a bunch of movies after that Oscar. She even turned down some projects based from her old interviews. It was Catwoman that ruined her Box Office appeal, not the Oscar.
