maths frame or DMM, 40 multiplication questions in two minutes for DMM, class scores have went from 10 to consistent 40’s. you do it daily and it takes 10 mins max to complete mark and input xx

I introduced my class to TTRS today and I can already see progress - lots of children have gone home and carried on practicing! Stick to Garage for super low-stakes practice, it gives you and the children a heatmap to identify their strengths and weaknesses.

We battle as often as we can - houses vs houses, boys vs girls, against other classes, against other school in the MAT. Homework is TTRS. At the end of every unit we do a TTRS soundcheck lesson. Garage for ‘going green’ certificates and badges. Before school 15 min daily TTRS club for those who need a bit of a boost.

I swear by TTRS and have done for 3 years! Most useful data comes from soundchecks which mirror the MTC and their heat maps on ‘fluency’ 😌

Numbersense booklets daily - 40 questions in 2 minutes, it starts in y3 and goes to y6, teaches fluency and understanding that 8 x 3 and 3x8 are the same, as well as the divisions. Also, Emile MTC every single week, looks exactly the same as the test and it collects the scores for me automatically. I’ve had children go from scoring 6 to scoring 15 already. Majority of my children score 15+

Please let me know your best advice for times tables. Apps? Games? Interventions ideas? It’s so hard to keep times tables fun 😂🍎📚

hi, my name is Eloise and I’m a student at a different school and I think you should really set up TTRS because I’ve learned so much. I’ve learned my 12s and I’ve learned my fools and my threes and now six and I love so I know so many times tables now I’m in year six now!

I used to play a game called Four Corners when I taught Year 4. No prep, no tech. My class all loved it and by the end of the year everyone was fully engaged and desperate to play!
1. Choose players for the corners
Pick 4 children to stand in the corners of the room (one per corner).
2. Choose a question caller
Pick 1 child to be the caller. Their job is to say a times tables question loudly and clearly.
3. Answering
The 4 children in the corners try to answer first.
• The first child to answer correctly is the winner of that round.
4. Moving around
• The winning child moves to the next corner (decide beforehand if this will be clockwise or anti-clockwise).
• The child already in that corner is out and sits down.
• The caller then goes to the now empty corner.
5. Repeat
• Pick a new caller for the next round.
• Keep going until someone manages to travel all the way around the room and visit all 4 corners without being knocked out.

Daily 10 is great for this! Two rounds at the beginning of a maths lesson and again straight after lunch. Supports rapid recall.

I'm in my third year in year 4 and would definitely say practising weekly is the most important, tracking the scores so the children know what they need to get to improve each week, use numbersense booklets daily and teach it explicitly before speed write etc! Good luck🥰

We practice using on online every week so kids are used to it. We also learn our time stables via chants calling rolling numbers.
