It’s based on an old novel. It’s not that he had insight into current scandals. It’s that powerful people want to control people and that continues to happen through history.

Not a single detail in Kubricks movies isn’t intentional. At the ball at the start of the movie, there is a couple that resembles Epstein and Gizzlane (idk how to spell her name). In a shot after showing them, they changed to a red wardrobe when it didn’t make any sense for them to change, putting an odd amount of attention on that couple. Also, at the end of the movie when they are Christmas shopping for their kid, they let the kid walk into the arms of the two that were stalking Tom Cruze throughout the movie. They willingly gave their child away to the society. Make of it what you will.
