older use but possible: „das Haar“ and „ein Paar Hosen“. „Schere“ is seen in German now as ONE tool, so it became Singular. But actually it is an old Plural to „Schar“, which is an old Word for a sharp tool (similar English „plougshare“ „Pflugschar“)

Ganz einfach: Englisch denkt an zwei BrillenGLÄSER, deshalb benutzt es Plural. Im Deutschen denken wir an das einzelne Objekt (Brillengestell inklusive Brillengläser). Deutsch benutzt daher den Singular. 2 Hosenbeine vs. 1 Hose (gesamt) 2 Schneiden vs. 1 Schere (gesamt). 👍

actually in many languages pants, glasses, and scissors are considered singular mainly because their parts aren't separable or useful if separated. As opposed to socks, gloves or shoes

Mein Oma (Jahrgang 1898, deutsch) hat immer von einem „Paar Hosen“ gesprochen, wenn sie „eine Hose“ gemeint hatte. Also das „pair of jeans“ hat es auch im Deutschen gegeben, wenn auch nicht unbedingt heute noch.
