In my opinion, silence is important. Silence and boredom lead to an engaged imagination and discovery. That uncomfortable silence is almost a liminal state before something more beautiful. It can feel mundane, awkward and deafening at first but you don’t always need to know what to do with it. That silence is new and you have to understand, adapt and create meaning out of it (which is a process) before you can decide what it means to you.

Exactly. Logging off isn’t a cure. It’s a catalyst. An awakening even.

Silence is only "unbearable" if you don't enjoy your own company -- that is the deep meaning of the "find yourself" modern mantra... 🤔

Logging off isn't some magic potion but it's a start. people need to be encouraged to unplug and go out into the world and engage more. Do it lonely idc. Some of the best things are born out of discomfort.

I completely understand your point since there are people who spend a huge amount of time online and their connections and communities rely mostly virtually. But I also think, logging off and start doing things they like to do, or figuring out what they like to do without putting it online or expecting reactions may help them feel calmer and more peaceful. Logging off and do nothing but hope for solutions is less possible to happen, but logging off and intentionally work towards one’s goal, appreciating small things in life, and overall do *something* definitely is a possible solution or way to have peace and calmness

brilliantly said, also most have not done the shadow work to sit in their quietness and loneliness and not be bothered by it but instead find joy in all the tiny mundane moments that fill up a day and makes it so wonderful and more importantly; most people don't have a genuine relationship with god.

Logging off means dealing with your thoughts, so it only works if you have no thoughts 😌

The discomfort of that silence is the point. Do the work to have a full life

i feel like things are good in moderation. i don't want to be consistently on my phone and have a high screentime but in moderation it's okay. allowing phone time and allowing to be present without it should be balanced :)

Ultimately this is why I’ve found it so hard to quit scrolling. I don’t have any friends so this is some of the only connection I have to other people even though it isn’t real

silence makes you think and from that process everything else comes to birth and peace is eventually one of those things

Such an interesting discussion, looking forward to reading this book. The discourse around logging off and the return to analog is really interesting. I find it's more present in Gen z which never lived a life without an online life.

It is too easy to live vicariously there’s so many people online and it traps people on a chair on their phone so when you get off your phone and you unplugged yourself and you’ve been vicariously living through so many other people I think it’s hard for people

If you think about it it’s a positive. Because social media is a distraction to avoid your inner problems - as you somewhat mentioned. You have to be willing to identify these problems - because the longer you sit with them the longer they fester and the longer they take a toll on you. I fully believe in logging off, identifying, and addressing your problems - as well as identifying the method you use to distract yourself from these problems in order to cope. It is meant to be uncomfortable.
