The nursing home we placed my dad with Alzheimer’s in closed the very next day for Covid. I never saw him again 😭 I pray he knows we didn’t abandon him there.

my grandma had dementia and the only thing keeping her grounded to reality was her Jack Russell terrier named Scooby. My mom searched for housing that allowed dogs and that helped get her settled, but when Scooby passed she deteriorated so fast 😔

nursing homes arnt bad it's the lack of visitors helping that makes them worse. we have a flawed system everyone knows this but those who are capable choose not to come and help.

I didn't have my children so they could waste they're lives looking after me. I have made it very clear when I am older if I can't care for myself, that I go into a home. I want my kids to have an amazing life.

As someome who has worked in many memory care facilities, these comments disgust me. Patients with dementia lose the ability to eat, to go to the restroom, to get dressed, they can't recognize themselves in the mirror. They wander off and get lost, they put themselves in danger. I work in a place where we need to keep all memory care residents behind locked doors with a code, or they'd try and escape and get hurt. We cant give them forks or knives, they get angry, have hallucinations. How can a family member without training care for them properly? I work 8 hours a day doing this, I couldn't do it 24/7 and not get paid, and have no income

The absolute worst feeling in the world, walking away from them in the home. I remember grandma begging to come home every single visit and it crushed me. 😔
