Bristexastails :
I met Hambo at the shelter two days ago. He was turned in on 2/4 and scheduled for euthanasia on 2/7. Yesterday I shared a video of him as I usually do to help get him exposure. Shortly after, people began messaging me saying they had seen a video of someone claiming she was taking him home and had even renamed him. Unfortunately, that was not true. On the same day that video was posted, Hambo was already at the shelter. I noticed in her TikTok the audio she used wasn’t hers. Then I saw her original video she posted to Facebook and see why she chose to cover her original audio with someone else’s.
I am a strong supporter of turning stray dogs into shelters rather than leaving them on the streets. The concern here wasn’t turning a dog in. It was publicly claiming a dog was safe when he wasn’t, which can prevent real help from stepping in.
This morning, I was sent the original audio from that video, and it was upsetting. Regardless of intent, the way animals are spoken to and spoken about matters. Stray dogs live incredibly hard lives. Their days are spent surviving, often without love, safety, or kindness. Even if they don’t understand our words, compassion costs nothing.
The part that matters most is that Hambo is safe. A rescue stepped up, and his temporary foster @teddyandjerry.thebullybros has already given him a bath and a bow tie. Simple acts of care that reflect how animals should be treated.
I hope this can be a reminder that animals aren’t props for content. They are living beings who deserve respect, honesty, and kindness, especially when they’re at their most vulnerable.
And to set the record straight he’s not an ugly bit**, he’s handsome as fuck.
