Somebody pushed that switch bloody hard for it to pop out. If it was a bit difficult to pop back in you're likely fixed it.

The plastic used on the 3-gang switch plate gets brittle over time and the switches often get pushed out. As you probably figured out, they're only a push fit with a couple of tiny tabs holding them in. If it pushes through again, just put a couple of drops of cyanoacrylate glue on the tabs before you pop it back in. It won't come loose again and won't negatively affect its operation.
