@michelle.vs.humanity: New Everest rules for 2026 - the Nepal government are putting in place new rules to climb Mount Everest in 2026. Including more expensive permits, no solo climbing allowed, better wages and insurance for Sherpa guides, a better regulation on trash and you have to have climbed a 7,000 metre mountain before. #mounteverest #everesttok
Nah I want higher salary for the guides. They can afford it

So basically reaching the summit of Everest was a wealth status rather than a skill status

“Leave no trace” goes out the window when people pay to summit Everest and it’s daft. These rules sound fair to me, especially about having to pass a medical! It’s a grueling climb

It should be the same as hunting, they give out a certain number of tickets a year for people to climb and if they leave anything on the mountain it should be massive fines. They should also be forced to start bringing down everything that’s been left up there or gave huge fines also

Definitely sus if you climb all the way up there and don't take a picture!

Actually, no one needs to climb Everest at all. All raising fees does is make it inaccessible for people that aren’t rich. Not *more accesible* for those who will have better outcomes

I think they should put a limit on how many permits go out a year with some kind of lottery system. Hiking up the fees won't do anything considering the climbers were already calculating losing their "bring down trash" fee when it was refundable.

These all seem super positive for the mountain and Sherpas. But I do wonder if the smaller window for acclimatisation will cause more deaths, even though it’s trying to stop overcrowding. Hopefully it doesn’t though :)

Why are people still doing this?! It’s not a flex when you are literally in a congested line to the top!!! Let alone all the other issues.

They straight up need to pay $1M for those permits. Let it be offensively expensive.

Have I climbed anything ever? Nope. But I do want to go and volunteer to get the trash down. Don’t even want to make it to the summit that line looks scary. Unfortunately I’m broke and out of shape. Glad they’re changing the rules.

i’ve been hearing about these problems with everest for ten years and i’m sure they were prevalent before that, too. so much damage has already been done. the sherpas deserve increased pay.
