🙏 PRAY THIS ACT OF FAITH IN THE REAL PRESENCE BEFORE RECEIVING HOLY COMMUNION For Catholics, receiving Holy Communion is not simply receiving bread and wine. We believe that Jesus Christ is truly, really, and substantially present in the Eucharist—Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity. Under the appearances of bread and wine, we receive the same Jesus Christ who was born of the Virgin Mary, who suffered and died for us on the Cross, and who rose gloriously from the dead. This is one of the deepest mysteries of our faith. Because the Eucharist appears outwardly as ordinary bread and wine, it can sometimes be difficult for our human minds to comprehend the greatness of what takes place at Mass. Yet faith teaches us to believe what our eyes cannot see. That is why making a simple act of faith before receiving Holy Communion can help prepare our hearts. It reminds us that we are not approaching an ordinary meal. We are approaching Jesus. Here is a prayer from the early 20th century that can be said before receiving communion to assert your faith that Jesus is truly there under the appearances of bread and wine. ✝️ ACT OF FAITH IN THE REAL PRESENCE My good Jesus, I firmly and wholeheartedly believe that in this most holy Sacrament are truly present Your Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity. I believe that in this consecrated Host, I receive the same Body that was born of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Bethlehem, that suffered so many pains and torments out of love for me on the Way of the Cross and at Calvary, and that rose gloriously from the dead on the third day. I believe that I receive God Himself. I adore You, my God, as my Creator, my Sustainer, my Redeemer, and my Judge, truly present in the Holy Eucharist. Divine Host, I adore You with the angels who fill this sanctuary and surround the tabernacle, just as they surrounded the cave of Bethlehem on that holy night. I adore You, my God, together with the Blessed Virgin Mary and in union with all the saints. Lord and Master of the universe, who have chosen to dwell among us, I adore You with profound gratitude. O my Jesus, bless this temple where You dwell, but even more, bless the heart that I offer to You as a living dwelling place and a place of rest. May You always dwell within me through Your grace and love, and may my sins never drive You away from my heart. Lord, I have a firm faith, but strengthen my faith. Deepen it so that it may produce within me a greater spirit of adoration and love.
