I have to "modify" creatures a lot with my group, as one in particular thinks he knows everything about all the creatures as he also DM's another group on off weekends. try blink goblins or Gold coins ( mimic babies) they'll eat your heart out once you make it to a town.

I’m a dnd nerd but I’m careful about only acting on info my characters know and I do ask the DM if it’s reasonable to say they do know it Sometimes they ask for a history or something check for it if the background or backstory (Monster hunter or a 275 year old bounty hunter) has enough info to suggest they are knowledgeable in most basic lore on basic monsters like trolls needing fire/acid
