Japanese red beans have an entirely different genetic lineage from American beans. It makes a lot of sense they would be treated differently.

I think we should not call the same thing that come from different languages, meaning in the US we can call it Japanese beans and in Japan western beans or something similar. Because red bean bread sounds foul and not sweet, but Japanese sweet red bean bread sounds like a different product

I’m Mexican American, but I’m also weird…. I like both savory and sweet beans. It’s depends on what they are served with. I think it’s a very versatile ingredient. But that’s just me, I know many other that are a bit skeptical and unaccepting but that’s on them

As a Hispanic, I'm used to only eating savory, spicy beans (zero sweetness). I don't even like baked beans because there is sugar in there. I have tried beans in a dessert and it's just not my cup of tea.

I live in the south and red beans always goes with smoked andouille sausage, pork (bacon and or tasso) and plenty of seasonings. And rice. Thats how I make it. Before I quit carbs 😅

I'm fascinated by it. How did two cultures go in such drastically differently directions? The only sweet bean dish I can think of is a bean salad.
