I used to work for Historic Scotland and yes, if you're visiting one of the smaller sites make damned sure you are out by the advertised closing time. The stewards will usually do a sweep of the site to catch any stragglers, but it's easy to miss people with all of the nooks and crannies, and the staff checking are often bored 20-somethings on close to minimum wage who want to go home. That said, there is usually a designated keyholder who the emergency services will call if needed, so no idea what happened here to require them to break the door.

When I was 7 I got locked inside the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. My mom thought I had exited with my grandmother. My grandmother thought I was with my mom. When they met up, they realized. I was directed out by a voice over the PA system telling me how to leave, turn-by-turn. 🙄

Imagine having built a castle hundreds of years ago that was so impenetrable even modern day police and firemen had trouble rescuing someone from the castle. Thats some quality engineering

This is totally possible because you don’t realize how much further Scotland is north than the US. The sun doesn’t set until 11pm sometimes so it would be hard to gauge where 6:00 would be if you aren’t paying attention
