@ashleydiary: happy saturday bestiess.. I went in for an iron infusion this morning because of my iron deficiency anemia. Everything was running smoothly until I started seeing air bubbles, then my chest felt like it was slowly caving in and I could not breathe, my body felt like it was burning. They immediately stopped the infusion and gave me oxygen. It all happened so fast. Not being able to breathe and feeling your body shutting down is the scariest thing. I’m feeling much better, I have more on the agenda today. #ironinfusion #lowiron #allergicreaction #anemiaproblems #fyp
Yep I had the same thing happen to me, and then later found out with the type of thalassemia anemia I have I don’t have receptors which means I should have never got the iron infusion it went straight to my organs I thought I was dying.

They’re supposed to do a test to see if you’re allergic to it first before they give you the infusion at least my doctor did they gave me a little I sat there 40 minutes, made sure I felt OK and then continue with the rest of the infusion sorry that happened to you…

I had a reaction with my iron infusion as well. Going forward, they’ll likely pre-medicate you—either Benadryl through your IV or by pill—before starting, and in my case they now give Pepcid first too. It’s also important to ask which brand of iron you received (ex Venofer® (iron sucrose), Feraheme, etc) and whether it was a single large dose or smaller doses given over 2–3 weeks. Once they started pre dosing me with Benadryl I now have no problem. 🫶🏾

I had an allergic reaction too. everything started itching, my throat was getting tight. They gave me benadryl and switched the iron, and increased the amount of time they infused it.

I had a reaction as well. I was shaking with chills and had body aches. I felt like I had the flu. I took Tylenol and took a nap, and I was okay the next day.

The infusion I had back in August triggered my body. I was rush to the hospital in an ambulance. I had shortness of breath, really dry mouth, my legs gave in. When I got to the hospital my troponin levels were elevated along with my blood sugars: severe reaction for me
