This has been an issue since patient became “customers” and customer service is the priority. We need to have the guts like you did in these situations!

Curious question. If there was a MD Order - would it trump the hospital policy?

My question is, what was wrong with that father? He went so far as to get you fired for trying to keep his kid safe?

My question is did another nurse put that child in a regular bed because of the pressure? Or did he stay in the crib?

Hospitals try to bend policy ALL the time, when it’s convenient for them. Kudos for standing your ground👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

One thing I clearly learned after putting in 50 years. Nobody, but nobody, will have your back in nursing except yourself! Always do what’s right! 👍

Honestly, I wish stories like this were documented as case studies and then mandated to read X amount to trends licensure. We do our CEUs but this is JUST AS if not MORE important to remember.

I believe this! damn VIP patients (in this case family members) think policies don't apply to them!!!

This is especially bad in rural areas where certain patients have "pull" in the community. It's a difficult fight. Props to you for standing by the policy. Even though you were dragged through the mud, in the end, it saved you.

I had a similar situation regarding an ECT patient and competency. They can threaten you all they want and it is tempting to give in. But, you must follow what you know is right. In the end, I won and so will you.

My favorite part is when they don’t have a policy and fire nurses for no policy violations. It’s a racket. For profit hospitals are the only ones that don’t fire anyone 🙄

I would always get things like this in writing. I imagine there is a reason that they were calling you instead of putting in orders or writing you. They wanted no proof.
