To the people that don’t know what they’re talking about - the alternative movement has never been about acceptance. It’s about extending freedom of expression and thought and rejecting ideologies that restrict it. It was created at a time where social norms, fashion, mainstream music, etc… were very conservative and it was used to break away from that. Just because the political party the alt movement most closely associates with is more prevalent in today’s politics does not mean that associating with the other side is more “alternative” especially when the other side looks to restrict the very foundation of the alt movement. So no you can’t be conservative and alt or conservative and punk.

Well, alternative is meant to go against whatever the major opinions are currently seeing as alternative music came out during it heavily Republican era so if the country is now more democratic, technically being conservative, and Republican is alternative

The majority of Alt groups started as counter culture. counter to pop, country and mainstream ideals, I.E. capitalism.

Alt goes against societal norms, political normalization and they generally oppose any and all government infringement on human rights. So you actually cant be liberal OR conservative. And it’s also inclusive, so you can’t gatekeep others because they don’t fit YOUR definition. Hope this helps.
